Crann

crann are pockets of reality suspended within the nothing.

they are actually the remains of very powerful siol who reached the end of their independent lives, and become the substrate for which new life can form.

within a crann, they feel just like any other universe, vast cosmos etc. but physical space doesn't matter, what matters is attention. while distance and geometry is a fundamental principle of reality that persists between crann, it's generally unused. (this means very few crann have alien worlds). faster than light travel is utterly impossible in this cosmology-- but why would you care if you can flip to another reality, one that might be completely different in even basic physical laws from your own?

crann each have their own physical laws, some might have hyperdimensional reality that overwhelms lower dimensional creatures, some might have fewer dimensions, making them feel constrained.

etymology of crann is gaelic (or something) for "tree"

Structure

Reality within a Crann isn't as stable as it appears living inside of one, and it's hinted that it never was, even before the Eclosion. Events that modify everyone's memories, behaviors, and attitude happen constantly, but because they happen on a higher meta level, they apply to everyone simultaneously, throughout time. Siol become aware of these shifts.
