principles

principles are the conscious components of reality that form the underlying bedrock of all experience. they interact with individual consciousness-- which is the fundamental force in this universe-- to produce observable reality in a consistent way. as a result, they're very pedantic, and very concerned with consistency. they can very rarely be bargained with, if the bargain serves the greater structure of reality, but they're usually extremely strict, ensuring the physical process or natural law they are responsible for is perfectly respected.

their form is inconsistent and mostly inferred by the observer's nervous system, because in the realm they exist they have very little use for a self-concept or a persona. they are what the ancient chinese might have called a "heavenly bureaucracy".

Because a Siol's existence is less fixed than a human's, they can re-orient themselves relative to the narrative and literally step out to where the principles exist as flesh and blood like normal humans. This is an extremely abstracted place, where nothing behaves as you would intuit, it's still just as real as day-to-day life. In these spaces, Principles can be talked to and interacted with as if they were normal people, and they can even be bargained with.

It is these principles that the Siol technique of prayer speaks to directly, but they are not the deepest layer of reality that can be reached this way.

Creative Notes

I ultimately want principles to be of similar size and power to human souls, if all the structure of their narratives (the Story) are stripped away and they're just bare souls. The point of this is that living people/things are far more vast than they can consciously imagine. Maybe they're just immature, or maybe they're new and going to go on, after the Crann process, to become other things. I don't know.

Reality as presented by the Story is a point you're always approaching but can never really reach. It's infinite and goes on forever, getting ever larger, more intricate, more exquisite, more amazing. You can never reach your goal, but in the process of striving you have a grand adventure that never ends, through all your trials and tribulations and transformations. That's what I want the message of this to be.
